1. SECAD is delighted to invite you to theSECAD Sustainable Communities Training Programme Introductory Webinars

The SECAD Sustainable Communities Training Programme is a FREE programme aimed at community groups, volunteers, businesses, young people and individuals who are interested in developing and nurturing sustainability withing their local communities.

During these online workshops, we will

  • Discuss Sustainability and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
  • Provide an overview of the SECAD Sustainable Communities Training Programme
  • Introduce the trainers delivering the programme (Change by Degrees in South Cork; VOICE in West Cork)

2. Greetings to all from IBCP,

We are delighted to announce that our new Pollinator Trail-ajoint venture between IBCP/OPW/Fota House & Gardens-is being officially opened by Minister for State, Patrick O Donovan of OPW,this Thursday, May20th (World Bee Day) at Fota House and Gardens in East Cork.

Unfortunately, due to covid restrictions we were unable to hold a big launch as we would have liked. However, we will be providing an information stand in front of Fota House for what we are calling our “Pollinator Trail Open Days” on both Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd from 12-4pm both days.

We would like to invite any of you that might be interested to come along and experience the trail amidst the wonderful surroundings of Fota House and Gardens. We would be delighted to see you there!

3. To mark Biodiversity week the OLA and the SMA are running a two week long online release of loads of information and resources onbiodiversity. Friday’s for Earth continues on June 11at 7.00pm with our latest sessionfeaturingthe topic ofRewilding. Our guest speakers will include a representative from The Green Sod whojust were accepted as part of the Rewilding network of Europehttps://greensodireland.ie, our second guest speaker is Randall Plunkett of Dunsany Castle,https://www.irishtimes.com/news/environment/how-the-baron-of-dunsany-carried-out-an-ambitious-rewilding-project-in-meath-1.4443054Dunsany Castle is also part of the Rewilding Europe network and our third guest speaker hails from the Bee Sanctuary in County Wicklow.https://thebeesanctuaryofireland.com. Shortly the registration link will be released.
On the point of bees, if you look up the bee sanctuary website you will see repeated calls for the cessation of spraying of chemicals, it is killing our bees and other insects. And still despite all the calls from so many different sources, widespread spraying is happening in our city and county. If you are against the chemical spraying of verges and around the base of trees make your voice heard, campaign to stop it, pick up the phone and request it stops be it in your housing estate or on your public roads.
