Community Events and Initiatives: August to November
As we enjoy the warm summer days, our community is bustling with exciting activities and initiatives focused on environmental awareness and action. Here’s a rundown of what’s happening and how you can get involved:
August & September Highlights
- Sand Art and Sand Castles Workshop
Join us for a creative morning with three talented artists, exploring themes of flooding and rising sea levels. This unique event will take place on August 17th from 10 am to 12 noon at Youghal Front Strand. It’s a wonderful opportunity to engage with art and environmental issues in a fun and meaningful way. - Sandbag Filling Day
We’re calling for volunteers to help with a sandbag filling day on Saturday, September 7th. It promises to be a fun and productive day, as we prepare for the wetter months ahead. - Art Installation at Claycastle
On September 14th and 15th, from 12 noon to 4 pm, we’ll be setting up an art installation at Claycastle. This project reflects on our community’s relationship with the environment. Volunteers are needed, so please consider lending a hand! - Keane Park Pond Restoration Project
We are excited to restore the pond at Keane Park and would love your help. This outdoor project is a fantastic way to give back to nature. If you’re interested, please contact Grainne or Mark for more details.
Upcoming Events
- Climate Action Week: October 12th – 20th
We’re gearing up for Climate Action Week! We encourage everyone to organize an activity open to the public. Whether it’s a workshop, a discussion, or a hands-on project, let us know if you need any assistance. Let’s make this week impactful and engaging! - Town Hall Meeting: November 14th
Mark your calendars for a public meeting at the Town Hall on November 14th at 7 pm. The focus will be on the critical issues of flooding and rising sea levels. It’s an essential conversation for our community’s future.
Ongoing and Additional Notes
- Energy Information Hub
Don’t forget our weekly Energy Information Hub, every Thursday from 11 am to 1 pm at Cumann na Daoine. Chat with Mark for practical advice on retrofitting, solar panels, grants, and more. - Next Network Meeting
Our next Network meeting is scheduled for September 25th at 7 pm. If you have any suggestions for new projects or need assistance with ongoing ones, please reach out to us.
Summer Break Notice
Please note, we’ll be taking a break from email updates in August. We’ll resume in September with more exciting news and updates. Thank you all for your continued support and participation. We wish you a joyful and restful summer!
